There are many responsibilities as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department. I have been able to achieve many of my goals during my employment here. ACLS, PALS, and BLS are three of the certifications that I have used everyday in my job. Critical thinking skills are very important in this setting. Rapid triage is necessary to get the most critical patients to the physician as soon as possible. During the past 3 years at Houston Medical Center I have been part of a triage team and have attended conferences on how to recognize true emergencies. Working well together with other staff is also important so the patient gets the best care possible.

After being in the Emergency Department for the past 19 years I feel like I am ready for a change. I thoroughly enjoy emergency nursing and all the challenges it offers. I have gained so much confidence and knowledge in handling the different types of emergency situations. I have a very calm manner and I feel like I am able to relay that calmness to the patient. Educating the patient and family is also something I like to do. Emergency medicine is so unpredictable and ever changing and I can always learn more in this field of nursing.

My skills as an ER nurse include good critical thinking skills, good rapid triage skills, and the ability to interact well with patients, family ,and other staff members.
